Sidewalk Talk in Manly

YOU TALK, WE LISTEN

LISTENING BUILDS HEALTHY
HUMANS AND A JUST WORLD

Why Sidewalk Talk?

Listening changes your perspective, fills you with hope, soothes frayed nerves, improves mental health, reduces loneliness, increases inclusion, and reminds us that people are good despite how the media portrays them.

Our Mission

At Sidewalk Talk, we believe in the transformative power of heart-centred listening. Our mission is to reduce loneliness, increase belonging, promote inclusion, and enhance social health through the practice of listening on public sidewalks worldwide.

Sidewalk Talk, founded in San Francisco in 2015, started in Manly in 2023. For more information on SideWalk Talk USA, please go to  https://www.sidewalk-talk.org/

We offer heart-centred listening at East Esplanade, Manly on the second Sunday of every month and on certain other days (Christmas day, RUOK? Day) from 10am onwards.

We are building a community of local, grass-roots volunteer listeners dedicated to offering inclusive, non-judgmental and ‘no problems solved’ listening. And through listening, everyone creates a sense of belonging, one connection at a time.

  • Next Sidewalk Talk Event at East Esplanade: 13th October  @ 10am
  • Next Sidewalk Talk Heart-Centred Listener Training: 27th October @ 11.30am-1.30pm Manly Library (Shelley Room)

Free Workshop on active listening

Once a month, Sidewalk talk will offer a free, 2-hour workshop on developing listening skills. This workshop will be held at Manly library on a Sunday afternoon and is limited in numbers.

We will cover the soft skills required to support good everyday conversations; we then go deeper into the skills for heart-centred listening – for those times that you really do need to have a ‘heart-to-heart’. Once you have completed the workshop, you have the option to practice your new skills as a volunteer with Sidewalk Talk – but not mandatory.

To express your interest in going, please drop us a line (SMS 0411 512 390 or email peter@petercoyle.co)  and connect with us @sidewalktalkmanly (Facebook and Instagram) and let us know that you would like to attend. More information is on our Facebook page.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT ME

Pete’s got this amazing way of creating a safe space in our group sessions. He’s like a mind-reader with his questions, helping me open up about childhood stuff and the insecurities it left me with. Our therapy journey wasn’t just about my struggles – it brought real-life changes.

I seriously think you have a lot to offer to professionals around the world - because of your global cutting-edge work, your own life experiences, the intervention training and certification that you have attained - but above all, because you are a genuinely kind and helpful human being! Totally endorse Peter, this man always knew what he was talking about 🙂

Takes a lot of clarity, courage and conviction and you have all of those in spades. Your personal and professional experience will help many take a very pragmatic way of dealing with the stresses of today's corporate and social pressures. Wish you the very best for this venture! A much-needed service for high-functioning professionals who probably aren't so good at asking for help, and perhaps don't spend enough time working on themselves. Knowing Pete as I do, I would highly recommend that anyone who wants help working through the pressures of professional and personal life (or just needs a trustworthy ear to listen) should reach out to him.

These services are so needed, not only in Sydney but the global community. And if Canada (where my kids are studying) is any indication, there's plenty of demand for good therapists. Good Luck and I look forward to hearing more success stories. 💪💪
